Telegram APK for Android — install on any phone or tablet

Grab the Telegram APK for Android to install Telegram on Android phones, tablets and foldables without depending on a specific app store. The APK is the same package Telegram distributes officially, so it's ideal for devices that ship without Google services or when your Play Store rollout hasn't reached you yet.

After the APK downloads, your browser or file manager may ask permission to install apps from this source — grant it just for this install and then revoke.

Why grab Telegram APK for Android

The APK edition is helpful in three situations: your phone doesn't ship with Google Play, you want the newest release before your regional Play rollout catches up, or you're provisioning tablets and want to sideload with a script. The file is a signed Android package identical to the one shipped through official channels.

Device requirements

  • Android 5.0 Lollipop or newer (ARM, ARM64 or x86)
  • At least 200 MB of free storage for the install and cache
  • 1 GB RAM minimum; 2 GB+ recommended for smooth media playback
  • Optional: a SIM or virtual number for phone-based sign-in

Sideload the APK step by step

  1. Tap the download button — the APK saves to your device'sDownloads folder.
  2. Open the file. Android may ask to allow this browser or file manager to install unknown apps. Toggle the switch and return to the install prompt.
  3. Confirm the install. Play Protect will silently scan the APK for known threats.
  4. Launch Telegram, enter your phone number and confirm the one-time code.
  5. Optional: revoke the "install unknown apps" permission you granted in step 2 for extra safety.

Verifying the APK

You can hash-check the APK on the command line — for example sha256sum Telegram_*.apk on Linux/macOS or certutil -hashfile Telegram_*.apk SHA256 on Windows. The signing certificate on the APK matches the official Telegram signing key, so if Android complains about a signature mismatch during update, it means you have a modified build installed and should remove it first.

Rich Android features

  • Chat backups. Optional Google Drive backup for local decryption keys — the messages themselves already sync from Telegram's cloud.
  • Multi-account. Up to three accounts with per-account theme, notifications and pass-code lock.
  • Foldable and tablet layouts. Two-pane view on wide screens with independent scroll.
  • Battery-friendly sync. Push over FCM when available, background poll otherwise for de-Googled devices.
  • Widgets and shortcuts. Add chats or the latest media to your home screen.

Updating Telegram on Android

Once installed, Telegram checks the servers periodically and prompts you when a new version is available. You can also revisit this page and download the latest APK any time — installing on top preserves your local session and cache. To opt in to bleeding-edge features, look for the beta channel inside Settings → Advanced.

Common issues with APK installs

If Chrome refuses to open the APK, long-press the file in your Downloads app and pick Open with → Package Installer. On MIUI, HyperOS or ColorOS, look for a "risky app" disclaimer and allow the install explicitly. When updating fails with a signature mismatch, uninstall the previous copy first and reinstall — your cloud messages remain untouched.
